Mental health support

Guidance for anyone who is experiencing a mental health problem or if you are supporting a member of staff with a mental health problem.

In an emergency

If you feel suicidal or feel like harming yourself or other people:

  • Call 999
  • Go to your nearest Accident and Emergency department (A&E). You can search for your local department through the NHS Choices website.
  • NHS helpline 111 provides urgent healthcare advice

For non-emergency situations

Cumberland Council Occupational Health Service 

Employee self-referral for counselling Counselling can be provided to employees as an interim measure of support while the employees seeks longer-term treatment and support through their GP. Your referral will be treated in confidence unless it is considered that you may be of risk of harm to yourself or others.
