Mental health support
Guidance for anyone who is experiencing a mental health problem or if you are supporting a member of staff with a mental health problem.
In an emergency
If you feel suicidal or feel like harming yourself or other people:
- Call 999
- Go to your nearest Accident and Emergency department (A&E). You can search for your local department through the NHS Choices website.
- NHS helpline 111 provides urgent healthcare advice
For non-emergency situations

Cumberland Council Occupational Health Service
Employee self-referral for counselling Counselling can be provided to employees as an interim measure of support while the employees seeks longer-term treatment and support through their GP. Your referral will be treated in confidence unless it is considered that you may be of risk of harm to yourself or others.
Every Life Matters
Every Life Matters is a Cumbrian Suicide Prevention charity providing resources and information for those
experiencing thoughts of suicide.
